A porcelain veneer is a thin covering that creates a natural-looking, beautiful new surface for your tooth. The veneer is made of strong porcelain that substitutes for your natural tooth enamel. Veneer porcelain is beautiful and tough, and it last much longer than dental bonding.

Dr. Metzger uses the most advanced dental porcelain technology to create your veneers to look as lifelike as possible. The veneers can be made so thin that they can sometimes be bonded directly onto your existing tooth. In other cases, only a tiny layer of tooth enamel needs to be removed to fit the new porcelain surface.

What to Expect

After consulting with Dr. Metzger about your overall goal with porcelain veneers, this is what you can expect at your appointments:

Dr. Metzger will minimally contour your teeth and take dental impressions. You will leave with temporary veneers while the lab fabricates your customized veneer.
Your veers will arrive! They will be tried in and evaluated for fit and aesthetics before they are cemented in place. We will discuss their look and overall fill. You will leave with your new smile!

MINIMALLY INVASIVE VENEERS for failed bonding

This 18 year-old female had composite bonding placed several years ago to mask the fluorosis markings within her anterior teeth. Dr. Metzger removed the failed bonding and and slightly prepared the teeth to receive the veneers. The final porcelain veneers were delivered two weeks later with a bright and natural result!

VENEERS FOR Bruxism (clenching and grinding)

This is a classic case of attrition and wear caused by nocturnal and daytime bruxism (clinching and grinding). The patient is a 55 year-old male who was concerned about his front teeth “crumbling away”.

Dr. Metzger restored the teeth with Empress Veneers and fabricated a bruxism guard to help prevent further damage to his natural teeth. The veneers were initially placed in 2012, and the photo on the right was taken at a routine cleaning appointment in January 2014.

This patient’s smile has deteriorated severely over the past several years, as the result of failed bonding material from prior dental treatment. Dr. Metzger delivered a new smile that she can be proud of, using four Empress veneers on the central and lateral incisors.

This 39 year-old female suffered from severe wear and attrition of her teeth. She has a very outgoing personality, but the appearance of her teeth have prevented her from fully expressing her smile. Dr. Metzger delivered a combination of anterior veneers and posterior crowns to restore the function and natural contours to her teeth. She now has a smile to match her dynamic personality!

VENEERS FOR COMPLETE SMILE ENHANCEMENT

This 55 year-old male was unhappy with the general appearance of his smile, and he felt that his teeth made him look much older than his actual age. He was also dissatisfied with the inconsistent color of his teeth, from a variety of dentistry he received throughout his lifetime. Dr. Metzger delivered six veneers to correct the attrition, wear, color and shape of the teeth. This smile enhancement was completed with one series of restorations.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR PORCELAIN VENEERS?

Porcelain Veneers are an excellent solution if you would like improve the following characteristics of your teeth:

Color – for stained teeth that have resulted from foods, drinks, smoking, or normal aging. Veneers are available in many shades to match the rest of your natural teeth, from a natural color to a bright white.

Size and Shape – for worn down teeth that have resulted from grinding, or teeth that do not have the shape or size you want. Dr. Metzger can design your veneers with a shape and size that is more flattering for your face.

Spacing and Alignment – for small gaps or problems with alignment. Veneers can be used to make slight corrections, while also improving the color and shape of your teeth.

However, there are some cases where porcelain veneers are not the correct solution for you. For example, you may need orthodontic treatment (braces) for large gaps or significantly misaligned teeth. And If you are missing a lot of your tooth structure from trauma or decay, you are probably a better candidate for a porcelain crown that covers the entire tooth surface.
