Metzger Dentistry offers implant restorations, which provide a strong foundation and a beautiful, natural appearance. Dental implants allow us to design a restoration that does not have to be attached to your adjacent teeth. Instead, the restoration is attached to a metal post that has been surgically positioned for support.
You are a good candidate for a dental implant if you:
- Are in good health
- Have healthy gums
- Have enough bone to anchor the implants
- Are committed to taking care of the implanted teeth with regular brushing and flossing.
After your dental implant has been surgically placed by an oral surgeon, Dr. Metzger will place your implant restoration. Your implant restoration will be designed specifically for you, and it may be a porcelain crown, bridge, or denture. Bridges and dentures mounted to dental implants are secure and won’t slip or shift in your mouth. As a result, you will feel more confident and comfortable about eating and speaking.
What to Expect
Many kinds of implants are available, and your implant restoration will be uniquely designed for your best overall result. Dr. Metzger will work closely with your oral surgeon on a treatment plan that includes placing the implant and restoring it afterwards.
- You will have initial consultations with Dr. Metzger and your oral surgeon.
- Your oral surgeon will surgically place the implant in the missing tooth space.
- While your implant is adapting, you will have one or two post operative checks by the oracle surgeon or Dr. Metzger.
- After your implant is healed and strong enough to support the restoration, Dr. Metzger will install your crown, bridge, or denture.
Regular dental visits are a key to the long-term success of your implant restoration. You should continue your home care routine with brushing and flossing.

Dr. Metzger completed the case with a porcelain crown that matched the color and shape of the patient’s existing teeth.

Advantages of Implants:
- An implant is most similar to a natural tooth and often feels more comfortable.
- Nearby teeth remain intact and do not have to be involved in the placement procedure.
- Implants are a good value because they can last a lifetime with good care.
- Implants may help prevent shrinkage of the jawbone from tooth loss.
- May fit better and be more comfortable than removable partial dentures.
Disadvantages:
- Implants require surgery, so they are not right for everyone.
- Implant placement may take longer and may require more dental visits than other options.
- Implants may cost more than other treatments.

Implant-Supported Bridges and Implant-Supported Dentures
An implant-supported bridge replaces the lost natural teeth and some of the tooth roots when more than one tooth is missing. Unlike traditional bridges, an implant-supported bridge does not need support from the teeth next to it.
If you are missing all of your teeth, an implant-supported denture can replace the missing teeth and some of the tooth roots. Because the bone in your jaw actually grows around the implants, an implant-supported denture tends to be comfortable and stable. This allows you to bite and chew naturally.
