Dental Bonding

Maybe you have a chipped front tooth or small gaps between your teeth. Or, maybe you want to cosmetically enhance your smile in a single visit. If so, dental bonding is a great choice for you!

Bonding is among the easiest and least expensive of cosmetic dental procedures. When you see before and after examples of our cosmetic bonding patients, you will quickly realize that Dr. Metzger is actually an artist at work. The transformations are miraculous, with his ability to match the shape and hue of teeth so they naturally fit the patient’s face and smile.

As the name indicates, dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-colored resin is applied to your tooth and hardened with a special light, ultimately “bonding” the material to your tooth. Using this technique, we can repair your chipped or cracked teeth, close gaps, and even change the shape of teeth. It is also a superior cosmetic alternative to silver amalgam fillings, which are rarely used.

What to Expect

After consulting with Dr. Metzger about your overall goal with cosmetic bonding, this is what you can expect at your appointment:

  • We will select a shade that most closely matches the natural color of your teeth
  • Dr. Metzger will apply the bonding material and sculpt the tooth into the proper shape
  • The material will be hardened using an activation light
  • Dr. Metzger will complete any finishing touches, such as additional shaping and polishing of the bonding to match the rest of your teeth.

It usually takes about an hour to complete the bonding procedure. However, if you are having multiple teeth done, it could take several visits to complete. Because most tooth bonding procedures do not require anesthesia, you can return to normal daily activity immediately after your appointment.

BONDING FOR TRAUMA REPAIR

How long bonding lasts depends on how much bonding you have done and your oral habits, so it’s important to give bonded teeth the same amount of care and attention as your natural teeth. Bonding material is prone to staining, so watch how often you consume substances that can stain, such as tea, coffee, cigarette smoke and wine.
